The water net, a type of green algae, can be found on the surface of freshwater bodies such as ponds and canals. The cells in Hydrodictyon algae are shaped like cylinders and arranged in pentagon or hexagon shapes, which give the appearance of a net.
It grows quickly due to its efficient reproductive capabilities. The water net is made up of a network of cells that form hexagons or pentagons and can reach up to 20 cm in length. It reproduces both sexually through gamete fusion and asexually by forming motile zoospores. The motile zoospores are formed inside each cell, which then develop into daughter cells that join together to form mini-nets. When the mother cell's wall disintegrates, the daughter net is released.
